The Rosenberger Lab

Welcome!

Research Statement

My research focus is to address issues related to the conservation and management of aquatic biota, with a focus on linking field distributions and landscape patterns to specific ecological mechanisms.  I frequently initiate this work through investigation of sound methodologies for sampling fish and invertebrates.  I am presently focused on conservation assessment of mussel communities, crayfish ecology and life history, and water quality requirements for reintroduction of nongame fish.  Past research emphasis has been on the distribution and life history response of fishes to harsh Arctic extremes, wildfire, and variability in environmental conditions.  I serve or have served as the Principle Investigator for multiple projects in Alaska and Missouri, leading interdisciplinary research teams, while supervising graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.  My work is interdisciplinary, cooperative, and provides fundamental information to managers.

Interested in being a member of the Rosenberger lab?

Funding for my research program is primarily through resource management agencies, and the research my students conduct is applied to inform management questions. Students who may be interested in pursuing a graduate degree in my lab should contact me prior to applying.  I do not accept students without full research funding; however, opportunities can arise very quickly.

I encourage students interested in working with me to look at my current research and student projects to determine if there is a place you will best fit.  Publications are a very good indicator of my research interests, but not necessarily what I am up to with my students right now.

If you do contact me, please provide me with a resume and a statement of your research interests.  Writing samples can also be very useful.  I encourage all applicants to contact past and current students and staff in my research program to investigate whether my program is the right fit for you.

For an overview of my philosophy on creating a fertile atmosphere for my students to learn and develop, this publication may be helpful for you to read.
